División El Teniente está ubicada a 80 kilómetros al sur de Santiago y a 2.500 metros sobre el nivel del mar, centra sus operaciones en la explotación de la mina subterránea de cobre más grande del mundo. Esta mina que comenzó a ser explotada en 1905. Desde esa fecha hasta la actualidad, se han perforado 3.000 kilómetros de túneles.Esta División cuenta con recursos geológicos de 100 millones de toneladas de cobre fino y reservas de 35 millones de toneladas. Sus unidades productivas actuales son: Esmeralda, Diablo Regimiento, Sur Andes Pipa; Dacita, Reservas Norte, Teniente 4 Sur y Pilar Norte.Además, desde fines de 2012, opera el Rajo Sur, que es la primera explotación en superficie en la historia de El Teniente. Está ubicado entre 2.730 y 3.240 metros sobre el nivel del mar. En su primer año, la operación aportó 56 mil toneladas de cobre fino a la producción.
Otros proyectos recientes son: Dacita, que entró en proceso productivo durante el año 2014 y posee 39 millones de toneladas de reservas y una de las leyes más altas del yacimiento (1,14% de Cu); y Diablo Regimiento Fase IV, que comenzó a operar durante el primer semestre del año 2014. Esta mina aporta 10 mil toneladas por día de mineral a la planta de Colón. Además, a fines de 2015 entró en operaciones Pacífico Sur.
Entre los proyectos futuros, se puede mencionar Nuevo Nivel Mina, Proyecto Estructural de la Corporación. Se trata de un nuevo nivel de extracción de mineral, que permitirá explotar la zona ubicada bajo el sector Teniente 8. Este proyecto estructural sumará 2.020 millones de toneladas de reservas y extenderá la vida productiva de la División cerca de 50 años. Debido a las restricciones presupuestarias de la empresa estatal, en 2016 este proyecto está siendo reformulado. Durante 2015, la División El Teniente produjo 471.157 toneladas de cobre fino.
The Company
El Teniente Division is located 80 km south of Santiago and 2,500 meters above sea level. It focuses its operations on the exploitation of the largest copper underground mine in the world. The exploitation of this mine started in 1905 and to date it has 3,000 km of underground galleries. This Division has geological resources for 100 million tons of fine copper and reserves for 35 million tons. Its current productive units are: Esmeralda, Diablo Regimiento, Sur Andes Pipa; Dacita, Reservas Norte, Teniente 4 Sur and Pilar Norte. Also, since late 2012 it operates Rajo Sur, which is the first on-surface exploitation in the history of El Teniente. It is located 2,730 and 3,240 meters above sea level. In its first year, the operation contributed with 56,000 tons of fine copper.
Other recent projects include: Dacita, which started its productive process in 2014 and owns 39 million tons of reserves and one of the highest grades in the deposit (1.14% of Cu); and Diablo Regimiento Phase IV, which started its operations the first semester on 2014. This mine supplies 10,000 tons per day of mineral to the Colon plant. Also, Pacifico Superior started its operations in late 2015.
Among its future projects we can mention: Nuevo Nivel Mina, the Corporation’s structural project. It is a new level for the extraction of mineral that will allow exploiting the area located below the Teniente 8 sector. This structural project will add 2,020 million tons of reserves and it will extend the Division’s productive life for almost 50 years. Due to the State Company’s budget restrictions, in 2016 this project is being reformulated. In 2015, the El Teniente Division produced 471,157 tons of fine copper.
